You will see that I have now amended the tagline at the top of the post to make it clearer to readers about the circumstances under which this dialogue took place.

It is true, also, that as you correctly point out, I use the term 'product placement' quite lightheartedly in reference to books where famous brand names are used by the author to add further detail to setting or to characters' lives. If you look around this blog you will see that I have also referred to this in other books in the past in the same way. I do of course understand that you (and probably no other author!) is paid to 'feature' any given brand in this way.

Kind regards

BiancaBiancaPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04701757541161509783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2103344489559813335.post-2920727144583754652011-05-09T11:09:04.002+02:002011-05-09T11:09:04.002+02:00Dear Bianca

This looks to me like a transcript of the Q&A session at my WH Smith Paris event in March, where the questions came not just from you but from many different audience members. Presumably you were recording the whole event, although I certainly did not know this at the time. It might be more straightforward if you flagged it as such for your readers.

Incidentally the term 'product placement' which you have used repeatedly about Maxwell Sim both in your blog and at the Paris event refers (according to my dictionary) to 'a practice in which manufacturers of goods or providers of a service gain exposure for their products by paying for them to be featured'. Because the atmosphere in Paris was generally light-hearted and good natured, and my comments were - I thought - off the record, I did not take serious issue with your use of this term with reference to my novel. However, I assume that you know how inaccurate it is.

Best wishes
Jonathan CoeJonathan Coenoreply@blogger.com
